General Custom Grouping
It is common when working with structural models to have various conceptual groupings of members, loads,
supports, and so on. Dr. Frame2D makes it possible to create arbitrary custom groups of modeling objects, and then automatically
select these groups via menu commands, so that conceptual groupings can be used to organize and accelerate modeling tasks.
This page presents mechanisms for creating, selecting, and
managing custom, named groups.
To create a named selection, simply select the desired objects using the select tool in any of the usual fashions. Then use
the New Auto Selection Group command in the Edit menu:
This will bring up a simple dialog that can be used to name the selection, and optionally add comments.
To automatically select a named group once it has been created, simply choose the corresponding name from the
bottom of the Edit menu,
which will be updated dynamically to include seleciton names as you add them:
Named selection groups can be managed using the AutoSelection Manager... command. This command brings up the dialog box
shown below, which can be used to modify or remove existing selection groups:
